Fertility Testing

Although there are many factors that affect fertility, at Polcz Fertility Center, we understand that you may have questions about where you stand currently. We offer the following fertility testing services that are also included as part of the infertility diagnostic workup; however, it is important to remember that based on your individual needs, additional fertility testing may be recommended.

  • Follicle count with Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) and/or cycle day 3 Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Estradiol testing – The follicle count is obtained with an ultrasound exam. Here the number of follicles within the ovaries is assessed. The AMH and cycle day 3 labs (FSH and Estradiol) are blood tests used to determine ovarian reserve in conjunction with the follicle count. FSH and Estradiol levels are cycle day dependent, whereas the AMH level can be drawn at any point within the menstrual cycle.
  • Semen Analysis – The complete semen analysis, performed by our in-house andrology lab, is used to asses the concentration of spermatozoa within a semen sample (millions/mL); the percentage of motile sperm within the sample; and the percentage of normal morphologically shaped spermatoza within the semen sample amongst other parameters.

Infertility Diagnostics

In addition to the ovarian reserve testing, your diagnostic work-up will consist of additional blood tests, cycle dependent diagnostic and imaging tests including but not limited to the: Hysterosalpingography (HSG); Sono-Hysterosalpingography(SHSG); and Saline Infusion Sonohysterography (SIS).

Your candidacy for available treatment option(s) is based on the results of your diagnostic testing and if applicable, your partner’s semen analysis.

It is important to remember, your diagnostic workup is designed to fit your individual needs and the tests mentioned below, amongst others, may be included as part of your plan.

  • Preconception Labs – These blood tests are an integral part of the diagnostic work-up. The blood tests include but are not limited to, tests to determine your ovarian reserve in addition to fertility related hormone levels. We also offer genetic carrier screening for you and your partner.
  • Hysterosalpingography (HSG) – This radiologic procedure utilizes an iodine based solution and an X-ray to allow for the visualization of the Fallopian tubes and the uterine cavity. Here, the physician is able to determine whether or not there is a blockage in the Fallopian tube(s) and/or a defect within the uterine cavity.
  • Sono-Hysterosalpingography (SHSG) – We offer this as an in-office, no radiation exposure, alternative to the HSG test. Here, the uterine cavity is examined and tubal patency can be determined.
  • Saline Infusion Sonohysterography (Sonohysterogram/SIS)- This in-office, procedure utilizes an ultrasound to clearly visualize the uterine cavity for the presence/absence of intrauterine polyps, fibroids, and adhesions.
